CBD Cocktails: Why people are mixing up this new combo

CBD Cocktails: Why people are mixing up this new combo

It’s no secret that CBD is one of the hottest new health trends (and with good reason), so it may or may not surprise you to learn that people are finding ways to put in everything. And why not? Adding CBD to your cocktail could help give you a more relaxed buzz, be a hangover remedy and help you get a better night's rest.

Why Are People So Keen to Take CBD?

CBD has numerous health benefits (which you can read about elsewhere on our blog) for long term conditions such as arthritis and depression, but it’s also a great way for anyone to feel a little more relaxed and at peace with the world. If you need a way to unwind after a stressful day or find it difficult to sleep at night, it’s much better for you to turn to CBD than prescription drugs.

Is CBD safe mixed with alcohol?

1979 study looking at interactions between CBD and alcohol found that the two substances could be taken simultaneously with no adverse effects. More recent animal studies have shown that CBD may actually help to prevent some of alcohol’s toxic side effects. Researchers have found that CBD can significantly reduce alcohol-induced neurodegeneration in laboratory mice. Furthermore, another study recently discovered that CBD works to prevent alcohol-induced liver injury in mice.

How will it make me feel?

Our bodies have an endocannabinoid system (ECS).  It is responsible for two basic activities.  First is to regulate pleasure, energy and well-being.  The second is to help the body repair itself in the event of injury or disease. When introducing cannabidiol (CBD) into our body it bonds with our CB1 & CB2 receptors, helping the ECS maintain the above vital health functions and restore balance in our body.

Each person's endocannabinoid system interacts with cannabinoids differently.  Things such as metabolism, genetics and biochemistry can all affect your absorption of cannabinoids.  Therefore, CBD can make some people feel relaxation, euphoria and pain relief while others may feel nothing.

For most, adding CBD to their cocktail will give them a more calm buzz and relieve some negative effects of alcohol such as headaches, nausea, anxiety and depression.

CBD and Hangovers

The intensity of a hangover differs from person to person depending on their liver’s ability to process alcohol, and their hydration level.

By interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system, cannabidiol is able to regulate and heal the following...

- nausea

- headache and migraines

- anxiety and depression

- inflammation

How Much CBD Should I Add to a Cocktail?

That’s up to you and how much CBD you usually take. If you haven’t taken it before and aren’t used to the taste and the smell, start with a low dose and build up as you become used to it and when you know how your body reacts to your first dose.  We suggest you start with 5 - 10 mg.

Does it Matter What Alcohol I Use?

No – but the higher the volume of alcohol the less likely you are to feel the effects of CBD.

Where Should I Buy My CBD?

Where you buy your CBD is of course, up to you, but ensure that the products you use have a full list of ingredients on the packaging and have the independent lab results available for you to read. Our LivKind 500mg CBD Tincture is ideal for use in your beverages, you know exactly how much CBD it contains and recommended serving sizes.  Try it in the mint flavor (goes great with mojitos)
